Kenny Kramer (born May 1943) is an American former stand-up comedian and the inspiration for the character of Cosmo Kramer in the television sitcom Seinfeld. He grew up in the Tremont section of the Bronx, New York City, and dropped out of high school at age 17. Alongside his comedy career, Kramer sold magazines and played drums in a Catskills resort band. In 1981, he transitioned to selling light-up 'electronic disco jewelry' in nightclubs. Kramer also sought to manage New York point karate champion Bill Beason. Kramer's connection with Seinfeld co-creator Larry David, who lived across the hall from him for six years in Manhattan Plaza, influenced the character of Cosmo Kramer in the show.
