Kitty Mei-Mei Chen is a playwright and actress known for her work in both theater and film. Born in Shanghai, China, she was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Chen earned a BA degree in mathematics from Pembroke College (Brown University) and later studied at the Martha Graham School in New York City. She began her career as an actress, appearing in various productions before transitioning to playwriting. Chen's first play, Eating Chicken Feet, received critical acclaim and was awarded the 1992–93 NEA Fellowship in Playwriting. Her work blends elements of absurdity, playfulness, and darkness, exploring the impact of divorce on Chinese-American families. Chen currently resides in New York City.
