Laurie Anderson, born Laura Phillips Anderson on June 5, 1947, is an American avant-garde artist, musician, and filmmaker. Known for her diverse range of talents, Anderson's work spans performance art, pop music, and multimedia projects. In the 1970s, she gained recognition in New York for her performance art projects that explored language, technology, and visual imagery. Anderson achieved commercial success with her song 'O Superman,' which reached number two on the UK singles chart in 1981. She released her debut album, 'Big Science,' in 1982, and has since released several studio and live albums. Anderson has also directed the concert film 'Home of the Brave,' and has been involved in theatrical and documentary works, voice acting, and art installations. She is widely recognized as a pioneer in electronic music and has invented several musical devices that she incorporates into her recordings and performance art shows.
