Lee Lawrence

Lee Lawrence (born Julius Leon Sirota, 1 September 1920 – 25 February 1961) was a British singer who gained popularity in the 1950s. Born in Salford, Lawrence's parents were both singers with the Carl Rosa Opera Company. At the age of 16, he traveled to Italy to study opera for three years before returning to England. After serving in the Royal Tank Regiment, Lawrence sang with the Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA), catching the attention of BBC radio producer Roy Spear. He made numerous appearances with various bands and made his first recordings for Decca Records in the late 1940s. Some of his notable songs include "How Can You Buy Killarney", "Song of Capri", and "So Ends My Search For My Dream" in 1949, as well as "The World is Mine Tonight" (his theme song) in 1950. Lawrence's career was cut short when he passed away in 1961.
