Lee Sang-hee is a retired South Korean military officer who served as the 32nd Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces and the 41st Republic of Korea Minister of National Defense. Born in 1945, Lee graduated from the Republic of Korea Military Academy in 1970 and the College of Liberal Arts & Science, Seoul National University in 1974. Throughout his career, he held various high-ranking positions, including Chief of Force Planning at ROK Army Headquarters, Commanding General of the 30th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Director General of the Policy Planning Bureau at the Ministry of National Defense, and Commanding General of V Corps. Lee was promoted to a 4-star general and assumed command of the Third ROK Army before serving as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2005 to his retirement.
