Lee Stringer Biography
Lee Stringer is a writer known for his work on homelessness and substance abuse. From the early 1980s until the mid-1990s, Stringer lived unhoused in New York City while battling a substance use disorder. During this time, he served as an editor and columnist for Street News. His essays and articles have been featured in notable publications such as The Nation, The New York Times, and Newsday. Stringer is the author of two books, 'Sleepaway School' and 'Grand Central Winter: Stories from the Street.' He currently resides in Mamaroneck, New York. In 1998, he received the Doe Fund 2nd Annual Murray Kempton Award, and his book 'Grand Central Winter: Stories from the Street' was a New York Times Book Review Notable Book and nominated for a Quality Paperback Book Club New Voices Award.
