Leila Mottley Biography
Leila Mottley (born 2002) is an American novelist and poet. She gained recognition for her debut novel Nightcrawling, which became a New York Times bestseller and was nominated for prestigious awards, including the Booker Prize, making her the youngest author ever to receive such a nomination. Mottley was named the Youth Poet Laureate of Oakland, California in 2018 at the age of 16. She co-wrote and starred in the documentary short When I Write It, which was an official selection at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2020. Mottley's poetry has been featured in The New York Times. Currently on leave from Smith College, she is focusing on her writing career.
