Harrop's first TV acting role was in an episode of the BBC drama, The Street, in 2009, where he starred alongside Maxine Peake and Stephan Graham. His portrayal caught the attention of the series' creator, Jimmy McGovern, who praised Harrop as a 'natural talent.' He gained further recognition for his role as Ralph Wilson in the acclaimed series, The A Word, from 2016 to 2020, and its spin-off, Ralph & Katie, in 2022.
