Liz McCartney
Liz McCartney is a co-founder of SBP (formerly the St. Bernard Project) and a prominent figure in disaster recovery efforts. Born in Washington, DC, McCartney attended Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School and graduated from Boston College in 1994. She later obtained a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from the George Washington University. McCartney served in the Peace Corps in Lesotho, South Africa, and has experience teaching ESL and middle school. Prior to starting SBP, she held the position of Executive Director at a community-based nonprofit organization in Washington, DC. McCartney's work in rebuilding homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina earned her recognition, including the title of CNN Hero of the Year in 2008.
