She is best known as the co-creator of The Daily Show, where she served as head writer and one of the original correspondents. Winstead made her standup comedy debut in 1983 and became a national headlining comedian, appearing on shows like HBO's Women of the Night and the Aspen Comedy Festival. She also wrote and performed for early Comedy Central shows like Women Aloud and produced The Jon Stewart Show. Winstead is the founder and chief creative officer of Abortion Access Front, a nonprofit that uses humor to destigmatize abortion and fight against anti-abortion forces nationwide.
