Lucille Désirée Ball (August 6, 1911 – April 26, 1989) was an American actress and producer. She began her career as a model and later transitioned to Broadway, using the stage name Diane Belmont. Ball appeared in films during the 1930s and 1940s, mostly in chorus girl or supporting roles. In November 1940, she eloped with Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz. In the 1950s, Ball rose to prominence with her hit television show 'I Love Lucy,' which ran from 1951 to 1957. She was nominated for 13 Primetime Emmy Awards and won five, along with receiving other accolades, such as the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award and two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lucille Ball is considered one of the greatest icons in television history.
