Ma Thanegi (မသိင်္ဂီ; born 1946) is a Burmese writer, known for her English works on Burmese travel, history, and cuisine. She was a contributing editor to the Myanmar Times and editor of Enchanting Myanmar, a travel magazine. Thanegi attended the Methodist English High School in Yangon and later studied at the Rangoon State School of Fine Arts, the Rangoon Institute of Economics, and the Institute of Foreign Languages. She began her career as a painter, holding several solo and group exhibitions, before transitioning to writing. Thanegi has also translated works by other Burmese writers into English. She previously served as Aung San Suu Kyi's personal assistant before her arrest.
