Mai Murakami Biography
Mai Murakami, also known as 村上茉愛, is a retired Japanese artistic gymnast and Olympic medalist. Born in Sagamihara, Japan, Murakami began her gymnastics journey at the age of two. She achieved numerous accolades throughout her career, including being a two-time World champion on floor exercise in 2017 and 2021, a silver medalist in the all-around and bronze medalist on floor exercise in the 2018 World Championships, and a bronze medalist on balance beam in the 2021 World Championships. Murakami represented Japan at both the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, becoming the first female Japanese gymnast to win an individual medal at the Olympics with her bronze medal on floor exercise in 2020. She is also a four-time Japanese national all-around champion (2016-2018, 2020) and attended the Nippon Sport Science University in Tokyo.
