Margaret Britton Vaughn

Margaret Britton Vaughn, born on July 16, 1938, is Tennessee's poet laureate. She was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and moved to Gulfport, Mississippi at the age of four. Vaughn was baptized Methodist but now attends the Episcopal Church. Vaughn is known for her book 'You're Laughing, Ain’t Ya, God?', which explores her belief in hypocrisy and unnecessary rules of the church. She currently resides in Bell Buckle, Tennessee and is a sought-after mentor and advisor in the field of poetry. Vaughn has overcome both kidney and breast cancer in recent years. She was friends with country singer Loretta Lynn and has been visited by notable figures such as Bill Moyers and Maya Angelou.
