Margaret M. LaMontagne Spellings (née Dudar; born November 30, 1957) is an American government and non-profit executive. She served as the eighth United States secretary of education from 2005 to 2009 and was the president of the University of North Carolina System from 2016 to 2019. Currently, she is the President and CEO of Texas 2036, a non-profit organization, since 2019. Spellings played a significant role in the development and implementation of the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act, a primary and secondary education reform initiative. Throughout her career, she has held various positions under George W. Bush, both as the Governor of Texas and the President of the United States. In June 2023, she was appointed as the new CEO of the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, DC.
