Maria Cornejo

Maria Cornejo is a Chilean-born fashion designer based in New York. She is best known for her Zero + Maria Cornejo collection. Born in Chile, Cornejo moved to Manchester, England at the age of 12 during Pinochet's dictatorship. She graduated from Ravensbourne College in London in 1984. In 1996, Cornejo and her family relocated to New York City. Two years later, she opened a creative atelier and store in Nolita, known as Zero + Maria Cornejo. Cornejo's clients include Michelle Obama, Tilda Swinton, Christy Turlington, and Cindy Sherman. She has been a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America since 2003 and has won various awards for her sustainable fashion efforts.
