Marilyn Raphael Biography
Marilyn N. Raphael is a Trinidadian climatologist known for her work on climate change and variability in the high latitude southern hemisphere. She is a professor and former chair of the Department of Geography at UCLA. Raphael was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Geography from McMaster University in 1984, and her Master of Arts and PhD in Geography from Ohio State University. Her research focuses on global climate change and variability, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere. She has authored an award-winning textbook and holds leadership positions in international polar research initiatives. In 2023, Raphael was elected to the American Philosophical Society.
