    Mark Carlisle Biography
    Mark Carlisle (1929-2005) was a British Conservative Party politician and Member of Parliament (MP) for Runcorn from 1964 to 1983 and Warrington South until 1987. He served as Secretary of State for Education and Science from 1979 to 1981. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, to Manchester cotton merchant parents, Carlisle was educated at Radley College and the University of Manchester. He was actively involved in conservative associations during his university years and went on to become a prominent barrister, being admitted to Gray's Inn and becoming a Queen's Counsel in 1971. Although unsuccessful in earlier bids, he eventually secured a seat in Parliament in the Cheshire constituency.
