Mark Dyer Biography
Mark Dyer (June 7, 1930 – November 11, 2014) was an American bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem from 1982 to 1995. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, Dyer was of Irish descent and was baptized as a Roman Catholic. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War before studying contemporary philosophy at the American College of the University of Louvain in Belgium. After completing his studies at Saint Anselm College, he joined the Benedictines at Saint Anselm Abbey and took his vows. Dyer was ordained a priest and later consecrated as a bishop, serving in various roles within the Episcopal Church throughout his career.
