    Mark Stephen Waters (born June 30, 1964) is an American director known for his work in comedy films. Raised in South Bend, Indiana, Waters studied theatre arts at the University of Pennsylvania before attending the American Film Institute. He began his career as a stage actor and director in Philadelphia and San Francisco. Waters gained recognition for his directorial debut, the independent hit The House of Yes. He went on to direct popular comedies such as Freaky Friday, Mean Girls, and Mr. Popper's Penguins. Other notable films in his filmography include Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The Spiderwick Chronicles, and Vampire Academy. Waters has also directed several short films and has been attached to various upcoming projects.
