Martha Burns Biography
Martha Burns is a Canadian actress known for her stage work and TV appearances. Born on April 23, 1957, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, she studied at the University of Alberta and the Vancouver Playhouse's Acting School. With a long career as a character and supporting actress, Burns has been recognized for her roles in various TV shows and films. She is well-known for her leading role as Ellen Fanshaw in the TV dramedy series Slings and Arrows, which earned her two Gemini Awards. Some of her notable film work includes Long Day's Journey into Night and Love and Savagery, both resulting in Genie Awards. Burns is also a founding member and former associate director of Toronto's Soulpepper Theatre Company.
