Martin Evans
Martin Evans is an English biologist known for his groundbreaking work in the field of genetics. Alongside Matthew Kaufman, Evans was the first to successfully culture mice embryonic stem cells in a laboratory in 1981. He is renowned for his contributions to the development of the knockout mouse and the gene targeting technology, which involves using embryonic stem cells to create specific gene modifications in mice. In 2007, Evans, along with Mario Capecchi and Oliver Smithies, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their revolutionary discoveries. Evans studied at Christ's College, Cambridge and later joined the Department of Genetics at the University of Cambridge.
