Martin Harvey
Martin Harvey (19 September 1941 — 25 November 2019) was a Northern Irish footballer who played as a wing half for Sunderland and the Northern Ireland national football team. He began his career with local side Boyland F.C. and had a trial spell with Burnley before signing with Sunderland in 1959. Harvey made 314 league appearances for Sunderland, scoring five goals. He was part of a notable and settled back five for Sunderland alongside other players like Jimmy Montgomery, Cecil Irwin, Len Ashurst, Charlie Hurley, and Jim McNab. Unfortunately, Harvey's career was cut short due to serious back and other injuries, leading to his premature retirement at the age of 30. He was capped twice for Northern Ireland 'B' and represented the Under 23 side in three matches against Wales. Harvey was already a full international by that time.
