Marvin Mitchelson (May 7, 1928 – September 18, 2004) was an American celebrity lawyer and pioneer of palimony. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Mitchelson moved to Los Angeles during high school. He served in the United States Navy and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA. Mitchelson obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1957. He established a private legal practice in Los Angeles. In 1963, he won a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision, Douglas v. California, protecting the right to legal counsel for indigent defendants. Mitchelson gained national attention when he represented Michelle Triola, a lounge singer involved in a high-profile palimony case.
