    Matt Visser is a mathematics Professor at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. He completed his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley under the supervision of Mary K. Gaillard. Visser's research interests encompass general relativity, quantum field theory, and cosmology. He has authored numerous research papers on topics such as wormholes, gravitational horizons, and acoustic metrics. Notably, Visser is the author of the reference book 'Lorentzian Wormholes — from Einstein to Hawking' (1996) and co-editor of 'Artificial Black Holes' (2002). In recognition of his contributions, Visser was awarded the Dan Walls Medal by the New Zealand Institute of Physics in 2013.
