Matthew Butcher

Matthew Butcher (born 1975/1976) is a Western Australia Police (WAPOL) constable known for his involvement in a high-profile assault case. In 2008, while intervening in a fight at a tavern, Butcher was assaulted and sustained serious injuries, including brain damage, partial paralysis, and visual impairment. He was recognized for his service and bravery with awards such as the Emergency Services 'Pride of Australia' medal, Western Australia Police Star, Commissioner's Medal for Excellence, and Western Australia Police Medal. Despite the challenges he faces, Butcher has remained determined and resilient throughout his recovery.
