Matthew Simmons
Matthew Roy Simmons (April 7, 1943 – August 8, 2010) was the founder and chairman emeritus of Simmons & Company International, an investment banking firm catering to oil companies. He was a prominent figure in the field of peak oil and played a key role in raising awareness about the unreliability of Middle East oil reserves. Simmons served as an energy adviser to U.S. President George W. Bush and was a member of the National Petroleum Council and the Council on Foreign Relations. He authored the book 'Twilight in the Desert' in 2005 and gave numerous presentations on peak oil and water shortages. Simmons passed away at the age of 67 due to accidental drowning with heart disease as a contributing factor.
