Mel Taylor

Mel Taylor (September 24, 1933 – August 11, 1996) was an American musician, best known as the drummer for the Ventures from 1962 to 1996. Born in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York, Taylor began his career drumming for Boris Pickett and Herb Alpert before joining the Ventures to replace the injured Howie Johnson. His distinct rock style impressed the band members, leading to him becoming a permanent member. In 1965, Taylor released a solo album titled 'Mel Taylor & The Magics In Action'. In 1972, he left the Ventures to pursue a solo career and formed the band Mel Taylor & the Dynamics, releasing four albums during this time.
