Melle Mel Biography
Melvin Glover, born on May 15, 1961, is an American rapper known as Grandmaster Melle Mel or Melle Mel. He gained fame as the lead vocalist and songwriter for Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. In the late 1970s, Glover started his career and is often credited for being the first rapper to call himself MC (master of ceremonies). The Furious Five members included his brother The Kidd Creole (Nathaniel Glover), Scorpio (Eddie Morris), Rahiem (Guy Todd Williams), and Cowboy (Keith Wiggins). They achieved success with songs like 'Superrappin',' 'Freedom,' and 'The Birthday Party' while signed to Enjoy Records and later Sugar Hill Records.
