Michael Francis Moore (born April 23, 1954) is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and author. He gained recognition for his debut documentary Roger & Me, which explored the downfall of the automotive industry in 1980s Detroit. Moore won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for his film Bowling for Columbine, which examined the causes of the Columbine High School massacre and gun culture in the United States. His documentary Fahrenheit 9/11, critical of George W. Bush's presidency and the War on Terror, became the highest-grossing documentary in American box office history. Moore's other notable works include the award-winning Sicko, which analyzed the healthcare system in the United States.
