Michael Carl Ruhlman is an American author, home cook, and entrepreneur. Born on July 28, 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio, Ruhlman has written or co-authored over two dozen books on various topics, including non-fiction, fiction, memoir, and cooking. He has collaborated with renowned American chefs such as Thomas Keller, Eric Ripert, Michael Symon, and Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Ruhlman attended University School in Cleveland's suburbs and completed his undergraduate education at Duke University. After working various odd jobs and traveling, he returned to Cleveland in 1991 and began working for a local magazine. His first book, Boys Themselves: A Return to Single-Sex Education, stemmed from an article he wrote about his old high school. Ruhlman's second book, The Making of a Chef, further established his writing career.
