Michael Strano
Michael Steven Strano is an American chemical engineer and the Carbon P. Dubbs Professor of Chemical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is known for his work in the field of nanotechnology and quantum-confined materials. Strano has made significant contributions to the development of fluorescent sensors for human health, as well as solar and thermal energy devices. He was appointed editor-in-chief of the journal Carbon in 2016 and elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2017. Strano earned his BS degree in chemical engineering from the Polytechnic University, Brooklyn in 1997 and completed his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware in 2002. He has also held a postdoctoral research fellowship at Rice University, working with Richard E. Smalley, and served as an Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
