William Hayward "Mookie" Wilson (born February 9, 1956) is an American former Major League Baseball outfielder and coach. He played for the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays over 12 seasons. Wilson gained prominence for hitting the ground ball that famously rolled through Bill Buckner's legs in the bottom of the 10th inning of game six of the 1986 World Series. As a switch hitter with excellent speed, Wilson quickly became a fan favorite for his positive attitude and hustle. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1996. Wilson was born in Bamberg, South Carolina and played high school baseball for the Bamberg-Ehrhardt Red Raiders.
