    Mychal George Thompson is a Bahamian sports commentator and former professional basketball player. Born on January 30, 1955, Thompson played center for the University of Minnesota and later played center and forward for the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, and Los Angeles Lakers. He was the top overall pick in the 1978 NBA draft. Thompson achieved success with the Lakers, winning two NBA championships during the team's Showtime era in the 1980s. He is also known as the father of basketball players Klay Thompson and Mychel Thompson, as well as baseball player Trayce Thompson. Thompson's love for basketball began in his hometown of Nassau, Bahamas, where he played pickup games before moving to the United States as a teenager. He attended Miami Jackson Senior High School in Miami, Florida, and was part of a basketball starting lineup known as the 'Jackson 5.'
