Nadia Murad Biography
Nadia Murad Basee Taha is a Yazidi human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Born on March 10, 1993, in Kocho, Iraq, she gained international attention when she was kidnapped by the Islamic State in 2014. After being held captive for three months, she managed to escape and later sought refuge in Germany. Murad is the founder of Nadia's Initiative, an organization that supports women and children who have been victimized by genocides, mass atrocities, and human trafficking. She was appointed as the first-ever Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in 2016. In 2018, she, along with Denis Mukwege, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their work in combating sexual violence in armed conflicts, making her the first Iraqi and Yazidi to receive this honor.
