    Neil Dawson Biography
    Neil Dawson is a New Zealand artist born on 6 November 1948. He is best known for his large-scale civic sculptures. Dawson grew up in Masterton, Petone, and Hastings, and attended Hastings Boys' High School. During his time in high school, he gained attention for painting 'April Fool' in large white letters on the assembly hall roof. He studied at the University of Canterbury under Tom Taylor and Eric Doudney, earning a Diploma of Fine Arts (Hons). Later, he received a Graduate Diploma in Sculpture from the Victorian College of the Arts with the help of a Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council grant.
