Nicholas Amer Biography
Nicholas Amer (29 September 1923 – 17 November 2019) was an English stage, film, and television actor known for his performances in William Shakespeare's plays. He made his professional debut in 1948 and went on to play over 27 different Shakespearean roles. Amer toured to 31 different countries during his long career. Born in Tranmere, Birkenhead, Cheshire, he served in the Royal Navy during World War II and was wounded in action during the Allied invasion of Sicily. After the war, Amer studied at the Webber Douglas School of Singing and Dramatic Art in London, where he won the Webber Cup. He adopted the stage name Nicholas Amer and joined the Liverpool Playhouse under John Fernald.
