Nimesh Patel (born 1986) is an American comedian and television writer. He is best known for being the first Indian American writer on Saturday Night Live, joining the show in 2017. Born in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, New Jersey, Patel comes from an immigrant Indian Gujarati Hindu family. After moving to New York City to attend New York University, where he initially pursued a pre-med track, Patel graduated with a degree in Finance in 2008. As a comedian, Patel has tackled various topics in his shows, including the Partition of India. Despite his Hindu background, Patel no longer practices the religion.
