L. Paige Patterson, born on October 19, 1942, is a prominent figure in the Southern Baptist community. He served as the fifth president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., from 1992 to 2003, and later became the eighth president of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, until his firing in 2018. Patterson played a key role in the Southern Baptist 'conservative resurgence', also known as the 'Fundamentalist Takeover'. He holds a B.A. from Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, a Th.M. and Th.D. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to his academic career, Patterson began preaching in his teens and held various pastorates, including the presidency of the Criswell Center for Biblical Studies in Dallas, Texas.
