Pam Cook (born 6 January 1943) is a notable figure in the field of film studies. She is currently Professor Emerita in Film at the University of Southampton. Cook received her education at Sir William Perkins's School, Chertsey, Surrey and Birmingham University, where she studied under influential figures such as Stuart Hall, Richard Hoggart, Malcolm Bradbury, and David Lodge. Alongside Laura Mulvey and Claire Johnston, Cook played a pivotal role in the development of feminist film theory during the 1970s. She collaborated with Johnston on exploring the works of Hollywood film director Dorothy Arzner, generating discussions among feminist film scholars for many years. Cook also co-authored and edited the renowned film studies textbook, 'The Cinema Book,' for the British Film Institute. She has contributed to various publications and held teaching positions at esteemed institutions such as the University of East Anglia. In recognition of her expertise, Cook was appointed the first Professor of European Film and Media at the University of Southampton in 1998.
