Pam Smith is a Professor of Nursing in the School of Health in Social Science at the University of Edinburgh. She is known for her research on emotions and care within the nursing profession. Smith graduated from the University of Manchester's Bachelor of Nursing program and went on to earn a postgraduate certificate in adult education from Garnett College in 1973. In 1982, she obtained a Master's degree in Medical Sociology from Bedford College. Smith completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at King's College London in 1988. She has worked as a nurse and teacher in Tanzania, Mozambique, and Britain, and has also conducted post-doctoral research in the United States.
