Patrick V. Murphy Biography
Patrick V. Murphy (May 15, 1920 – December 16, 2011) was a prominent law enforcement executive who served as the top executive in New York City, Detroit, Washington, DC, and Syracuse, NY. He was the founder of the Police Executive Research Forum, an organization that brought together police executives from major law enforcement agencies. Murphy also led the Police Foundation, which published influential reports on various policing issues. His contributions to American policing are widely recognized and compared to the likes of August Vollmer and J. Edgar Hoover. Murphy was born and educated in Brooklyn and married Martha E. Cameron in 1945.
