Patrisse Marie Khan-Cullors Brignac, born on June 20, 1983, is an American activist, artist, and writer. She is widely known as the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement and has been a prominent advocate for prison abolition in Los Angeles and LGBTQ rights. Cullors, who integrates ideas from critical theory and global social movements, has written and spoken extensively about the Black Lives Matter movement. She has authored two books. Born in Los Angeles, California, Cullors was raised by her mother Cherice Foley and stepfather Alton Cullors. She has three siblings. Cullors met her biological father, Gabriel Brignac, at the age of eleven.
