Paul Cummings

Paul Richard Cummings (5 September 1953 – 17 September 2001) was a talented middle and long distance runner from the United States. Known for his versatility, he competed in distances ranging from the 1,500 meters to the marathon. Cummings broke several American records and even held one world record. Born in Tempe, Arizona, he moved to Santa Maria, California at the age of 11. Despite initially pursuing basketball, Cummings discovered his talent for running when he excelled in the mile run during Physical Education class. He joined the track team at Ernest Righetti High School and continued to excel, running the mile by his senior year.
