Paul Raskin Biography
Paul Raskin is the founding president of the Tellus Institute, a research organization focused on environmental issues and sustainable development. He has led numerous research and policy projects worldwide, including the U.S. National Academy of Science's Board on Sustainability and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's Third Assessment Report. Raskin has authored several influential international reports, such as the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and the United Nations Environment Programme's Global Environment Outlook. Born in Chicago in 1942, Raskin grew up in California and earned a B.A. in physics and philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley. He later obtained a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Columbia University in 1970.
