Paul Walther Biography
Paul P. Walther (March 23, 1927 – December 21, 2014) was an American basketball player. Born in Covington, Kentucky, he attended Covington Catholic High School and later played as a 6'2" guard/forward at the University of Tennessee. Walther's basketball career was interrupted by his service in the United States Navy during World War II. He captained the Tennessee team during the 1948–49 season. From 1949 to 1955, he played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for teams including the Minneapolis Lakers, Indianapolis Olympians, Philadelphia Warriors, and Fort Wayne Pistons. Walther averaged 7.7 points per game in his NBA career and participated in the 1952 NBA All-Star Game. After retiring from basketball, he worked for Merrill Lynch in Chicago for 32 years. Walther passed away at the age of 87 in Atlanta.
