Paul Yates Biography
Paul Yates is an American filmmaker, artist, and musician. He attended NYU for photography before earning a BFA in film from SUNY Purchase in 1993. He later received his M.F.A. in directing from AFI Conservatory in 2006. Yates began his career in the film industry at the young age of 9. Despite facing challenges, including homelessness at 15, he has worked on music videos and shot footage for notable artists such as Moby, R.E.M., and The Dandy Warhols. His films have been showcased in various festivals, including Berlin, Havana, Singapore, and Tribeca. Yates was also the director of photography for the documentary Modulations, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, he directed his first feature film, Moby Presents: Alien Sex Party, and his AFI thesis film Onion Underwater was selected for the Tribeca Film Festival in 2007.
