Peter Coe

Peter Coe (1919-2008) was a British athletics coach, author, translator, and father of Sebastian Coe. Born as Percy Newbold Coe in Stepney, Coe's parents, Percy and Violet, came from humble working-class backgrounds. Coe's father served in the First World War, and his mother worked as a charwoman. Despite their limited education, Coe's grandparents, barely had an education at all, his mother's employer bought a house next door to help the family. Coe gained recognition as an athletics coach, guiding his son Sebastian Coe to multiple Olympic victories. In addition to his coaching career, Coe also authored books and worked as a translator.
