Peter Edward Cook (17 November 1937 – 9 January 1995) was an English comedian, actor, satirist, playwright, and screenwriter. He was a leading figure in the British satire boom of the 1960s and associated with the anti-establishment comedic movement in the late 1950s. Cook was born in Torquay and attended the University of Cambridge, where he became involved with the Footlights Club and later became president. He co-created the comedy stage revue Beyond the Fringe and formed a successful partnership with Dudley Moore. Together, they opened the comedy club The Establishment in Soho, London. Cook and Moore also had a television career, starring in the show Not Only... But Also and receiving a British Academy Television Award in 1966. They appeared in several films together, including The Wrong Box.
