Peter Epstein Biography
Peter Epstein (born January 18, 1967) is an American jazz saxophonist. He began his musical journey learning clarinet from his father, Ed Epstein, but later switched to saxophone. Epstein studied improvisation and composition with notable musicians such as Charlie Haden, James Newton, and John Carter while attending the California Institute of the Arts. During this time, he also explored various musical genres including West African, North and South Indian classical, and Balkan folk music. Epstein graduated with a music degree in 1992 and relocated to Brooklyn, New York. He has since recorded over 50 albums and performed with renowned artists such as Ralph Alessi, Scott Colley, and Bobby Previte. Epstein is also a co-founder of the School for Improvisational Music in New York City and has conducted workshops at universities and conservatories.
